Still no public access to Baldhead Beach

The Department of National Defence has declared Baldhead Beach a “low risk” property, but it’s still off limits.

The sandspit between Welle’s Bay and Lake Ontario had previously been designated as a “high risk” area because it had been used as a practice bombing range during the second world war.

The federal government has spent several million dollars studying and cleaning Baldhead Beach up over the past 3 years.

Meanwhile, local MP Daryl Kramp says he’s still working with the Minister of Environment to have at least part of the sandspit declared open for public use.

Baldhead Beach is a national wildlife area, and is officially off limits to the public, although many people have been using the beach for decades.
